Firewind Allegiance Century Media Greek guitarist extraordinaire Gus
G. has delivered yet another sonic masterpiece via his latest band, Firewind, and their most recent endeavor, Allegiance.
No doubt many fans are disappointed with Gus leaving Swedish band Dream Evil,
but fear not as his skilled attack prevails mightily in this new chapter. Allegiance
boasts eleven blistering tracks of uncompromising metal glory. Having no shame
at all in the band’s direction of traditional power metal, they put forth an
effort that is sure to bring die hard fans of the genre to their knees. While there are no real surprises
found here, one can’t help but be captivated by the astonishing display of
expertise that the band pours forth in their musical delivery. Masterfully
executed and passionately driven, Firewind are
prime contenders in the current rise of power metal throughout the world. Vocalist
Apollo Papathanasio works exceptionally well with Gus
G’s in-your-face riffing and craftily carried out solo work. The two, in
conjunction with the rest of the band, prove to be of one mind, as is evidenced
by such prominent cuts as the title track, “Ready To
Strike”, “Breaking The Silence” which features guest female vocalist Tara, and
the wistfully pristine instrumental, “Before The Storm”. Firewind have delivered a heartfelt work of
rock-solid proportions. They, along with many of their peers, are poised to
lead the revolution of power metal for a new generation. Allegiance
possibly a hint of long-term dedication to the genre is as good an album as any
that I’ve heard in recent months. All that’s left to lock in their permanent
place in the history of metal is to carry their music to the four corners of
the world in a live presentation. I can’t wait for them to come to my town. -Priest |
