Warrant Born Again Cleopatra The aptly titled latest release, Born
Again, from 80’s Hair Metal mongers Warrant, marks the first album
of new material to not feature frontman Janie Lane and sees the debut of new
vocalist, Jaime St. James, formerly of fellow 80’s rockers Black ‘N Blue.
Staying true to their roots they have presented us with an authentic
representation of everything that embodied the 80’s era of rock. Strong hooks,
melodic vocal lines and bluesy overtones with a down and dirty attitude, are
all represented very well. If you didn’t know any better you’d swear this was
released circa-1988-89. For long time fans that may hold a
skeptical thought toward the band’s revamped line-up, fear not, as this current
incarnation wields just as much power as anything they released back in the
day. St. James does a slammin’ job at leading the
guys into the next chapter of Warrant, and I have to admit that Lane is
not missed one bit. However, I wouldn’t go as far as to say that this band
sounds much like their former selves, as they do a completely new outfit that
would have been equally impressive in their initial hey-day. For anyone who considers themselves to be a fan of this genre of music, you will
agree that Born Again is a truly stellar achievement for a band that has
been M.I.A. for such a long period of time. Stand-out cuts include; “Dirty
Jack”, “Angels”, “Devil’s Juice” and “Down In Diamonds” People - this is well
worth the investment if you are so inclined. -Priest. |
