When it comes to Thrash, the bay
area scene of the mid to late 80’s was without a doubt where it was at bar
none. Bands such as Exodus, Metallica and Death Angel were
ripping apart the L.A. scene like no one could have ever imagined, in fact,
very few artists outside of those legendary circles have actually ever achieved
much if any recognition. Now that we are decades beyond the fearsome 80’s
heyday of bullet belts and torn jeans, thrash is making a remarkable come back.
One of the bands leading the charge of modern day thrash is Germany’s Dew-Scented whose no
nonsense attack is head on and in your face. While the classic sound of the
past remains a constant in the music of Dew-Scented they have opted to
deliver a much heavier punch than was prevalent back in the day. One
immediately obvious progression is the bands hostile vocal arrangement which
absolutely dominates their latest CD Incinerate. I was recently given
the opportunity to speak with frontman Leif Jensen in regard to their recent
release and the effect they are having on the Metal community in relation to
this reemergence of Thrash Metal madness, the differences between European
bands and American bands and the use of profanity.
