Tesla - Keepin It Real
Interview By: David Priest The 80’s heralded some of the best music ever created, especially when it came to rock. Yes there was a lot of big hair, yes there was, spandex, eyeliner and Aquanet but the look in which many of the artists were forced to adhere to by the industry at the time had nothing to do with their gifted musical abilities. Today blue jeans and T-shirts are the norm for these bands and their music has definitely stood the test of time. One band that went against the grain early on was Sacramento based blues rockers Tesla who never fully ascribed to the hair band mentality to begin with, although there were those who tried to push them in that direction. Offering up a heartland vibe to their music allowed for far more accessibility and reached fans on a more common level than many of their Hollywood contemporaries. The band have recently released a double disc set of cover tunes from some of their favorite artists of the 70’s titled Reel to Real and are currently gearing up for their next full length album of all original material. During their latest run of dates here in the states I managed to score some quality chat time with guitarist Frank Hannon to discuss the good old days, this latest project as well as what’s to come in the future of Tesla.
