Icarus Witch Songs For The Lost Cleopatra Showing a considerable amount of
promise, traditional Metal enthusiasts Icarus Witch have taken their
sound to the next level with Songs For The Lost the much anticipated
follow up to 2005’s highly rated Capture The Magic. Allowing for even greater musical
diversity Songs For The Lost taps into multiple influences ranging from
the dark and doomy sounds of Black Sabbath to the twin lead guitar
assault of Iron Maiden (House Of Usher) to Def Leppard’s catchy
hooks of which they do a surprisingly strong rendition of Mirror Mirror.
As an added bonus the guys successfully invited one of their longtime idols Joe
Lynn Turner (Rainbow/Deep Purple) to guest appear on the track as well. All
this topped with a neo-classical layer of ingenuity for good measure. While there is nothing here that
hasn’t been done before Icarus Witch are truly masters of songmanship
and this CD will no doubt sit very well with any fan of the traditional Metal
stylings. Additional stand out cuts include “Out For Blood” and “Smoke &
Mirrors” featuring a guest appearance by Katherine Blake of Mediaeval Baebes.
Without a doubt these guys have found a formula that is sure to work well for
them and I’m sure we will be hearing a lot about them in the coming year. -Priest |
