Insomnium – The Nigtmare Arrives!!

Interview By: David Priest © 2007 On Track Magazine.com

Although I do realize that there are no doubt many fans in the states that have been waiting far longer than I, after more than a year's time gone by my anticipation level was nearly out of control when the news finally arrived that Finland’s leading Melodic Death Metal export Insomnium were slated to make their U.S. debut in the fall of 2007. The band having been overlooked by much of the world due to their Swedish contemporaries defining success are way overdue in bringing to these shores their enormous and emotionally thought provoking live performance. Touring in support of their latest masterpiece Above The Weeping World, these Finnish masters of the dark and brutal are destined to be forerunners in the next chapter of Melodic tinged Death Metal. While the guys are still paying their dues and the touring lifestyle for a new band setting out into uncharted territory is anything but glamorous the guys of Insomnium are definitely the real deal and willing to do whatever it takes to make their mark in the world. After their stellar performance at the world famous Whisky in Hollywood CA I had the privilege to sit down with band members Ville Friman and Niilo Sevänen to discuss their maiden trek across North America, the differences between their music and the stylings of other artists in the current Metal genre as well as the difficulties of establishing themselves as a viable force in the musical community. Even penning down a name was slightly a bit difficult for these guys. Click Below To listen to the conversation.
