The Prevailing Power Of Kataklysm

Interview By: David Priest © 2008 On Track Magazine.com

U.S./Canadian Death Metal Masters Kataklysm are back on the front lines with their latest release titled Prevail which is due in stores on May 27th via Nuclear Blast Records. The guys are also slated to apear alongside The Black Dahlia Murder, Vader, Cryptopsy and a hoard of other heavy ass bands from the genre for the Summer Slaughter Tour in order to wreak havoc across North America during the blistering hot summer months. Kataklysm are quickly becoming one of the most talked about and highly respected Metal bands in existence today, their last album In The Arms Of Devastation proved to be a landmark release for the band and garnered the attention of the Metal community in such a powerful way that their popularity has increased exponentially since it's 2006 release date. The first appearance of the heralded heart beast on that album has also helped fans to identify with the bands music and philosophical principles and the beast's much applauded return on the forthcoming record has managed to up the anticipation level to the point of imminent insurgence. I was recently given the privilege of speaking with frontman Maurizio Iacono during the bands pre-release listening party in Hollywood CA to discuss the direction of the new CD and what fans might expect from Prevail as well as some of the truly off the wall and sometimes random criticisms levied against the band and how they deal with those criticisms.
