The new face of Metal is truly upon us and as the genre continues to evolve the reoccurring role of women in Metal is at an all time high as is evidenced by Finland’s premiere symphonic Metal outfit Nightwish, who recently made their way down south to bright and sunny San Diego California for the second leg of their U.S. tour in support of their latest masterpiece Dark Passion Play. As fate would have it I was given the special privilege of speaking with bassist Marco Hietala in regard to their successful comeback with new vocalist Anette Olzon, the criticisms stacked against them from skeptical fans and disgruntled fanatics, as well as what we might expect in the not too distant future of Nightwish by way of a new DVD the next full length CD and the bands final tour of the states this fall.
