Therion

Live Gothic

Nuclear Blast

Absolutely one of the best live albums of all time comes to us through Sweden’s Therion. As masters of the dark and proactive gothic Metal scene the band’s multi disc magnum opus Live Gothic sets new standards in live audio and video production. Featuring nearly three hours of music in a double disc audio format the album is truly every fan’s dream come true. In addition the set includes a subsequent bonus DVD which captures the band and all their vibrant glory one magical night in Warzaw Poland during the bands 2007 tour in support of their highly acclaimed Gothic Kabala CD, Therion unmistakably provide a truly astonishing and downright breath taking experience for the listener/viewer.

This picture perfect look into the passion and talent that encompasses Therion is unmatched by any within their genre and perhaps any within all of Metal in general. Not missing a note, a beat or any other element, this production is way over the top and finely suited for Therion’s divine take on theatricality and true performance art. The band’s vocal quartet, which consists of the beautiful soprano voices of Lori Lewis and Katarina Lilja alongside tenor Mats Levin and tenor/bass multi instrumentalist Snowy Shaw, shine brilliantly and bring to the table a refreshing departure from the one dimensional vocals delivered by most of the band’s peers. To say that they perform remarkably is an understatement to say the least. With semi-choreographed movements that only enhance the through and through feel of this live encounter the group achieve greatness and deserve the utmost respect for their endeavors. The massive amount of lights and excellently crafted stage design complete this masterpiece and make Live Gothic a must own for any and all fans of quality Metal.

Therion mastermind Christopher Johnsson has created a legacy that will not soon be forgotten and the release of this album finds the band entering their 20th year of existence and they are stronger than ever. Sadly the next Therion album will consist yet again of nee members as the band and Johnsson parted ways earlier this year. Hopefully there is plenty of creative juices still flowing and the next Therion release will surpass even this wonder of Mr. Johnsson. I’m sure I’m not alone in hoping that the band will be around for a good while longer.
