Sweden’s Viking Metal masters have returned to the battle ground! Amon Amarth, the Norsemen of melodic death metal fame have braved the ocean between us to deliver once again their superior sound to the mass of American fans who hear the call of Odin. 2008 finds them touring in support of their most promising effort to date, Twilight Of The Thunder God and playing to sold out venues all over the country on what is only their second headlining stint in the states. On the bands opening night I was privileged to have a one on one interview session with bassist Ted Lundström to get all the details surrounding this latest outpouring of the Viking spirit and how their first night back in the states was the beginning of a truly great tour. Finding out more about the bands deep rooted beliefs and the savage new direction of their new CD were among the topics discussed and I was very pleased and surprised to hear more of the bands introspectiveness during this wonderful conversation. Amon Amarth are taking Melodic Death Metal to an entirely new level and putting their peers to the challenge of keeping up. They have evolved at an incredible rate over the past couple of years and have now become true leaders within the movement. Don’t expect them to slow down any time soon either!
