Edguy Tinnitus Sanctus Nuclear Blast Never ceasing to amaze, those zany German Metallers known as
Edguy have opted once again to take
their music in a direction even further removed from their Power Metal roots
via their latest installment Tinnitus Sanctus.
Following a path they have been avidly pursuing throughout the last couple of
albums, this latest offering is sure to please fans both old and new. While it
is definitely not solidly based in their traditional renderings it rocks pretty
damn hard nevertheless. Frontman Tobias Sammet is at his
usual best here with a stellar range of emotion and satire in his vocal
approach and lyrically he stands as entertaining as ever, albeit a tad more
cynical with such tracks as “Sex, Fire, Religion” and “Aren't You A Little Pervert Too?!”
Perhaps the song that most tips its hand to the bands early work is the
extremely well orchestrated and speed demon accolade “The Pride of Creation”.
“Nine Lives” (another great title) begins a little bit too synth savvy for my
tastes but quickly develops into one of the most solid rock songs of the entire
CD, and you gotta love the line “your hand in my
crotch has turned to a boot”. Additional songs to pay attention to are the bluesy
“Dragonfly”, and the emotionally powerful anti ballad “Thorn Without
A Rose”. Overall the band have once again
proven their ability and worth in the on going game of creating quality
music. |
