Switzerland’s premiere Black Metal import Samael are back to the grind with a new album that finds them returning once again to the sounds of their early works. Having taken this vessel of music full circle with their last full length release 2007’s Solar Soul, the latest addition to their impressive catalogue, simply tilted Above, more than adequately delivers the bands penchant for interpreting a world painted in darkness. Rich with intellectual and artistic prowess, longtime fans will inevitably be thrilled for this latest masterpiece. I was recently privileged to have spoken with vocalist/guitarist Vorph in relation to the bands continued success, the current state of extreme Metal, their present trek across the North American continent and the fascinating culture behind their position in the history of the Black Metal movement. I always find when talking to artists such as this that there really is a lot to be gained exploring the vast differences and similarities between people and their perspective on any given situation.
