Legendary Black Metal enthusiasts Immortal have returned with their first full length release in seven years. All Shall Fall is the rather un-befitting title of this latest chapter in the continuing legacy of the influential clan; considering the band are once again on the rise after being on hiatus since 2003. Despite the title, the follow up to 2002’s Sons of Northern Darkness is yet another triumphant masterpiece guaranteed to appease the hunger of Metal aficionado’s the world over.

While All Shall Fall boasts nothing landmark, Immortal do once again prove that they are seasoned veterans at this game and you won’t find better writing skills or musicianship than what is being portrayed here. The band’s penchant for melody is intrinsically devout throughout but especially recognizable in such cuts as the title track, “Norden On Fire” and “Unearthly Kingdom”. Additionally the bands thrashy death/black Metal roots are prevalent as well, just check out stand alone tracks like “The Rise Of Darkness” and “Hordes To War”.   

What has always impressed me about this band is their ability to steer clear of the satanic ramifications that most Black Metal bands endorse. Huge credit is given for their use of imagination and uncompromising originality in creating the imaginary world of ‘Blashyrkh’ a recurring theme throughout the band’s discography. The mighty have risen again to wreak havoc in the Metal realms and All Shall Fall is a stellar come back to start with.
