Testament - True To Their Legacy

Testament

Interview By: David Priest © 2010 On Track Magazine.com

I remember when the evolution of Metal first opened the door to speed Metal, thrash and eventually death metal. Be the stubborn ass that I can sometimes be I hated it all…at first. Never one to welcome change with open arms it did take a bit of work to bring me around to what I now call my favorite music of the Metal genre. Early on, the bands whom I hated included Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Testament all of which I now voice as some of my all time favorite bands. Given that the attitude they all pushed was one of worldwide dominance it is really no surprise that they continue to hold their ground to this very day. When it comes to Testament on of the Bay areas finest, I have a special point of contention for Testament purely because I’ve experienced so many ill-fated attempts at seeing them perform live over the years. Recently I had the opportunity to speak with frontman Chuck Billy in regard to this concern as well as find out the latest happening in the world of Testament, including their tour with Megadeth and Exodus celebrating Megadeth’s 20year anniversary of the Rust In Peace CD as well as their own anniversary celebrating their debut release The Legacy in which they have been performing the entire album live. We also discussed the bands growth and maturity over the years, the personal struggles and strengths they have faced over the years including coming to grips with one’s own mortality, which Billy faced a few years back in a life and death battle with cancer. The band are scheduled to hit the road this summer with Slayer and Megadeth for the American Carnage tour listen in as even more details are revealed.
