For many decades now Germany has been a pinnacle of tremendous proportions for delivering Heavy Metal music to the masses. Launching such stellar artists as the Scorpions, Accept, Helloween, Warlock, Blind Guardian and Gamma Ray, the world is a much better place for having these legendary landmark bands offer their amazing talents. After guitarist Kai Hansen left Helloween in 1988 he formed his own band called Gamma Ray and has since been taking the world by storm. For their 10^th studio release they have wasted no time in getting straight to the point. To the Metal is by far the bands most ambitious work to date and contains absolutely no filler at all. I recently had the opportunity to spend some quality chat time with Mr. Hansen to discuss the bands illustrious career leading up to their latest release, his thoughts and reservations on being the bands frontman, how the band have maintained over the years with a solid line up staying consistent since 1997 and his take on the American Metal scene vs the European landscape.
