Jorn Dio Frontiers Being that the legendary Ronnie James Dio has and always will be my inspiration to push on through this life; I am sincerely open to anyone paying tribute to the late great master of the moon. Norwegian vocalist Jorn Lande (Masterplan, Jorn, Allen/Lande) has not only written a “Song for Ronnie James” (original composition) but has put together an entire albums worth of covers to pay homage to our fallen king. From the first chords of “Invisible” it is very evident that RJD was also a primary contender in the development of Mr. Lande’s career. Surprisingly he sounds so much like Dio that if I had just randomly heard some of these songs I’d swear it was the man himself. As it is, Jorn does not try and offer up some pathetic interpretation of Ronnie’s music but keeps the original formula intact throughout the album which is aptly titled Dio. As we all have been forced to deal with
Ronnie’s passing in our own way, Jorn has made
his available to share with the world. Dio represents a collection of
songs that primarily span Ronnie’s career as a solo artist forgoing the usual
tips of the hat to Black Sabbath and Rainbow (although “Kill the
King” is included). While every song is absolutely amazing simply for the fact
of stemming from the passion that made Dio who he was, Mr. Lande shines extremely powerful on such cuts as “Don’t Talk
To strangers”, “Invisible”, “Stand Up and Shout” and the one and only live
track found here in “Straight Through The Heart”. In addition to the stellar musical
achievement found here fans of the old school will definitely embrace the
tremendous artwork that accompanies the CD. Truly worthy of being a Dio
inspired release the art matches the music perfectly. No doubt Ronnie is
looking down from above with a huge smile on his face. His legacy will live on
forever and tributes such as Jorn’s Dio
will only help to further that legacy all the more. -Priest |
