Pretty Maids

Pandemonium

Frontiers

I remember when a friend of mine first turned me onto Pretty Maids epic achievement Future World back in the late 80’s, I was absolutely blown away and a bit confused at the same time as the band seemingly came out of nowhere. The fact that they’re music reached all the way from Denmark probably had a lot to do with it and unfortunately also made getting a hold of any subsequent releases extremely difficult. Over the years the Maids have maintained a strong presence in the hard rock and metal realms but have yet to recapture the magic generated by the Future Word release, but that’s definitely on the verge of change.

Marking their twelfth studio release Pretty Maids have made a euphoric return to their early roots while holding steadfast with today’s modern vibe. Pandemonium is every bit the album one would expect from these highly underrated Danes and more. Extremely rich song textures with a definite ode to the melodic make up the whole of this latest offering and it most surely does not disappoint. Soaring vocals, the trademark keyboard element and the ever powerful brazen guitar riff are all in tact thanks once again to the tremendous talents of founding members Ronnie Atkins and Ken Hammer. Lyrically the band tackle subject matter of both world concern and introspective sentiment as they have done on the majority of their albums over the last 30 years.

Stand out cuts include the title track, “It Comes At Night”, “Little Drops Of Heaven”, “I.N.V.U.” and “One World One Truth”, but truly there is not one ounce of filler to be found in the entire project. The album contains one bonus cut, a very potent remix of the song “It Comes At Night”. It would be exciting to see Pretty Maids get the credit they are due after nearly three decades of solid dedication and Pandemonium may be just the album to make it all happen for them.
