One of the most prolific artists in the metal genre of the last 20 years is Germany’s Power/Fantasy Metal stalwarts Blind Guardian. Never a band without tremendous amounts of inspiration and delicate intricacies, these German gents have proven their worthiness time and again. With their latest release At the Edge of Time, they have given both fans and critics an album that is sure to exceed nearly every expectation. While the band may have made their mark on the Metal world shelling out songs that pay homage to the great work of J.R.R. Tolkien, they have expanded beyond their beginning in recent years and tackle a myriad of inspirations and their music parallels this move as well bringing forth more orchestration more progression and a mountain more attitude than ever before. I recently had the distinct pleasure of speaking with frontman Hansi Kursch about the bands latest masterpiece and how their music has evolved over the years. Do they take into consideration what the fans would like? How do they approach song ideas? We also discussed among other things, his loss of hair and how the music will be affected, the possibility of another Demons & Wizards album with friend and co-collaborator Jon Schaffer of Iced Earth fame as well as the return of Blind Guardian to the U.S. this fall. Check it out.
