Tinged with elements of mysticism and Science Fiction fantasy as all of their past achievements have done, Norway's premiere Prog-Metal onslaught - Pagan's Mind, have returned with another brilliant insurrection in what marks their their fifth studio release to date titled Heavenly Ecstasy. While the band have tamed down the Prog atmosphere a bit for this latest effort, the passion and poise of exceptionally strong composition is shown radiantly and in perfect reflection of their true abilities as superior musicians.
Heavenly Ecstasy is an emotional awakening, evoking powerful insight into the human psyche and taking the listener on a journey through the senses. Comprised of hard hitting riffs which take on an almost industrial facet at times ("Into the Aftermath"), soaring melodies courtesy of the bands majestic frontman Nils K. Rue and precision timing create the ultimate experience for any fan of the genre. Guitarist Jørn Viggo Lofstad and keyboardist Ronny Tegner have a magical chemistry that allows for what can only be described as a euphoric possession of all elements melodic.
While there is not a low point throughout the entire length of the CD, there are some truly over the top proportions that deserve to be spotlighted including the awe inspiring "Never Walk Alone"(which could bring Neal Schon of Journey fame to tears), the piercing jaunt of "Walk Away In Silence and the near life altering "Live Your Life Like A Dream". Closing out the album is the two minute long piano ballad "When Angels Unite" a choice cut for ending the ride and helping to digest all that came before. An absolutely wonderful album that will continue to find its way into regular rotation of my prized collection for years to come.
