Interview By: David Priest © 2011 On Track Magazine.com

While Swedish bands such as In Flames, Dark Tranquillity and At the Gates may have ushered in a new genre of music originally dubbed the Gothenburg sound and later identified as the Melodic Death Metal movement, it has fallen on a handful of Finish artists to carry on the evolution of the genre and lead it into uncharted waters. One band, Insomnium have almost single handedly paved the way for this morphogenesis to take place and with their forthcoming new CD One For Sorrow they are primed and ready to unleash hell on earth. Darker and deeply more melancholic than any of their Swedish peers, Insomnium proceed with a conviction unparalleled in the current state of the Melodic Death Metal variety. As a result to their overwhelming dedication and perseverance I felt it was high time for a chat to gain some insight into the forthcoming venture the band are preparing to undertake. Speaking with guitarist/co founder Ville Friman this task was achieved and the eminent destruction this band is preparing will surely mark a milestone in their career. Listen in to the chat below and discover for yourself the genuine passion and ingenuity this band wields so elegantly.
