Onslaught - Violence on the Rise!
Interview By: David Priest © 2011 On Track Magazine.com For decades the evolution of Metal has taken some twists and turns that no one ever imagined could be achieved and yet some of those changes have served to redefine the genre as we know it today. The thrash movement of the early 80's readily comes to mind. If you were to tell the guys in Metallica back in the day that they would ultimately become the biggest Metal band in the world and of all time I doubt very much that they would have bought into the notion. They would have certainly fantasized about it but probably would have laughed it off with the next round of alcohol they chugged down. As it remains today their immediate contemporaries also have stood the test of time and continue to wield their metallic rage across the globe. Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Testament, Exodus and Death Angel are all alive and well. As with any splintering of a genre there is usually a focused point from which the new blood stems and for these bands the bay area sereved it's purpose well. Elsewhere in the world though, the trash vibe caught on as well and for bands such as Germany's Kreator and Destruction or Britain's Sabbat, Venom and Onslaught their styles also contributed very much to Black Metal and the evolution of the genre in the same way that Slayer helped usher in the Death Metal scene in the states. Often overlooked and severely underrated, England's Onslaught were subsequenly a band who having never been given a fair shake faded to obscurity early on dissolving in 1991. Howerver, as most know, once it is in your blood it is an easy step back to those who are willing to take it and Onslaught following hot of the heels of their mega comeback release 2007's Killing Peace have returned with their most brutal offering to date. Sounds of Violence is the perfect thrash masterpiece and absolutely puts to shame the majority of the bands peers in my humble opinion. Speaking with the band's powerfull frontman Sy Keeler I wanted to understand where the guys hearts trully were at when it came to the various trials and tribulations thrown in their wake, their honest feelings about satanism and the occult as well as their thoughts on today's technologies, the change in record labels and when we might expect a U.S. Tour. Check out what he had to say!
