Lamb Of God

Killadelphia

Epic

As far as music DVD’s generally go I pretty much anticipated Killedelphia, the latest release from hardcore metal icons Lamb Of God, to be nothing out of the norm. However, what is contained within the nearly three hour-long feature is anything but ordinary. Offering fans a truly authentic look inside the band’s day to day routine gives Killadelphia an added incentive and goes way beyond the typical live concert. While there are integrated segments of an entire performance by the band it’s the behind-the-scenes dialogue that ultimately makes this DVD a must have for any Lamb Of God fan.

The musical portion of the film was recorded live at Philadelphia’s Trocadero in October of 2004 during the band’s Ashes Of The Wake world tour. What’s interesting about this performance is the stripped-down presentation. Instead of spending big bucks to film a gigantic festival gig with an over-the-top light show and a haze of fog, the show takes place in a club-style setting with minimal stage production, ultimately allowing for the band’s music and stage presence to sell the show. This, of course, is what truly represents the element at a LOG concert, and fans will no doubt give their stamp of approval for the band’s decision to forego the hype and offer things in an honest and accurate perspective.

What takes place during the band’s behind the scenes segment is both intriguing and unexpected as it shows the less than glamorous side of Lamb Of God’s work. From the pain of leaving behind their families in order to head out on tour, to the constant struggles of technical troubleshooting, the band as well as their crew are interviewed during this time. There are discussions of menial proportions as well as some rather sensitive subject matter including problems of drinking and self-critiques of their own performances but probably the most disturbing moment comes when a full blown fist fight ensues between vocalist Randall P Blythe and guitarist Mark Morton. By and large there is more than enough material to hold the attention of any LOG fan and Killadelphia is a welcomed addition to the Lamb Of God library.
